Where It All Began
Your Waste As a Resource Ltd. is a company built from a need for creative solutions to an everyday problem…waste. We are the second largest distributor of recycled plastic from Nova Scotia, shipping all over the world. Owner, Tom van Oirschot, is an agrologist graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and is able to provide environmental consultations in the Nova Scotia area.
In 1995, with the introduction of Waste Management to the residents of Atlantic Canada, there also came a deficit in the same regard for the Industrial and Commercial sector. Although the residents were taken care of, large businesses and corporations were not having the same success. This is where the idea for Your Waste As A Resource Ltd. started.
Owner, Tom van Oirschot, and a local plastics expert, implemented a process for which the plastic waste of these large businesses could be repurposed. They acquired a warehouse [currently available for lease], located just outside of Truro, Nova Scotia, for storing the waste until it could be shipped out and used elsewhere.
In 1997, Tom bought out his companion’s shares in the company and incorporated to become what is now Your Waste As A Resource Ltd.
In 2000, Tom began doing consulting work for companies such as Green Waste Systems, the Halifax Shopping Centre, and Stora Enso. Creating innovative solutions to their unique waste problems and saving companies, as in Stora Enso’s case, hundreds of thousands of dollars.
By 2002, Your Waste As a Resource Ltd. continued to evolve. The business shifted into buying and selling recycled product as well as new product. Some of those products include recycled Gaylord boxes, new industrial tote bags used for large loads of salt or feed, etc. You can find these products and more, today, at our online store.
We hope that we are able to, as the name suggests, make your waste a resource.
